Which tree's should I plant?

I'm going to be buying a house, with most likely little to no trees. The house will be in southern california, where its 32 in the winter and over 100 in the summer, and always sunny. I want to plant lots of shade tree's, not only to keep the house cool in the summer, but also to landscape my property. I want as many trees as possible. what are some fast growing, shade trees. that will do well in socal weather? oh and fruitless! fruitless mulberry? maybe!
