Why does Gordon Brown want to insult Labour voters?

He's probably doing the same thing Obama is doing here in the US. They think that if they play both sides of the field, they'll get more votes. Really what they're doing is causing the other parties (Tories and Reps) to laugh at them while they change their policies and lose the base (Labours and Dems).
